TEACHER
The Teacher plans, organizes and implements an appropriate instructional program in an elementary or secondary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s Degree required.
· Meet State of Michigan requirements for teacher certification in the required subject area(s) and grade level(s).
· Candidates must demonstrate the following:
o Exceptional skill in planning, delivering and assessing student learning.
o Exceptional knowledge in research based instructional strategies and ability to implement them effectively.
o Knowledge in the use of technology to support instruction.
o Ability to maintain high standards of professional conduct at all times.
o Punctuality, good attendance and strong work ethics in all areas.
o Ascribe to the philosophy that all children can succeed and demonstrates the commitment to do what is necessary to make this a reality.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide direct instruction and intervention to students.
2. Assist students in meeting the essential skills required in the Michigan Common Core skills.
3. Teach, tutor and use technological interventions to improve achievement.
4. Encourage students to set and maintain high standards of responsibility for their learning and behavior.
5. Understand the school’s and state’s requirements to teach middle school students and create corresponding curriculum
6. Prepare core grade level lesson plans on a weekly basis
7. Knowledge of content, pedagogy, and child development
8. Differentiated instruction to meet the needs of each student according to varying needs of student
9. Knowledge of learning styles and skill in using varied teaching methods to address student-learning styles.
10. Impart lessons, keeping in mind the individual learning paces of students
11. Design coherent instruction and student assessments
12. Assist students in understanding subject concepts and applying them in actuality
13. Ability to plan and implement a variety of activities for maximum effectiveness of instruction and student participation.
14. Ability to assess effectively the student levels of achievement, analyze test results and prescribe actions for improvement.
15. Assess students by observing them closely and provide special attention to students struggling with subject concepts
16. Provide parents with information on how to help their children achieve higher results
a. Observe students for behavioral problems and ensure that any behavioral issues are quickly and tactfully addressed to
17. Assist students in creating projects to help them understand difficult concepts
18. Develop key incentives to ensure students’ participation in class
19. Classroom management utilizing positive behavior support model
20. Create an environment of respect and rapport
21. Establish a culture for learning
22. Manage classroom procedures
23. Organize physical space that is conducive to learning
24. Use of varied teaching strategies
25. Use of questioning and discussion techniques
26. Engage students in learning
27. Use of effective formative and summative assessment techniques
28. Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness
29. Use of technology in the classroom
30. Student data analysis and portfolio maintenance
31. Continual professional development to keep up-to-date on curriculum developments and trends in the field of education
32. Employ a variety of research-based instructional strategies and instructional media consistent with the capabilities, needs and physical limitations of students.
33. Evaluate students’ progress on a regular basis and, when necessary, refer students who need assistance.
34. Instruct rules of conduct and ensure classroom and campus discipline.
35. Strive to implement, by instruction and action, the Academy’s philosophy, instructional goals and objectives of education.
36. Participate in weekly staff meetings, on-going professional developments and grade level/content area meetings and trainings.
37. Maintain appropriate administrative records according to district policy.
38. Consistently support and uphold school policies and procedures. Support the school and its leadership.
39. Model self-discipline and ethical behavior. Present self in a professional manner through appropriate dress, communication techniques and demeanor.
40. Skill in oral and written communication with students, parents and others.
41. Ability to maintain appropriate student supervision so that students have a safe and orderly environment in which to learn.
42. Ability to work effectively with peers, administrators and others.
43. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.’
