The Clark County Building Fire Prevention department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Building Inspector I/II position. This position learns and performs a variety of professional commercial, industrial, residential, and safety inspections of new and existing properties for compliance with adopted codes, reviewed plans, standards and regulations. Inspections may be in the following disciplines: building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing this position may also perform or assist in structural inspections, and drainage and storm water compliance.
Building Inspector I: $52,998.40 – $82,097.60 Annually
Building Inspector II: $57,158.40 – $88,649.60 Annually
This examination will establish an Open Competitive and Promotional list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months at either level or may be extended as needed by the Office of Human Resources. The Building Inspector I is a training underfill position, upon successful completion of the probationary period (520 hours worked to 2,080 hours worked) and the training program, which is up to two (2) years, the successful candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Building Inspector II.
Some positions may be used to fill term Limited-Permanent positions. The selected candidates will be hired for a special project or duties of a limited duration and be required to sign a term of employment letter specifying condition and exact dates of employment. The successful candidates will be eligible for benefits during the duration of employment.
Some positions may be Grant Funded. Grant Funded positions are subject to continuation based on availability of grant funds and the employee will be terminated without right of appeal when such funds are no longer available.
Some positions may be Bond Funded. Bond Funded positions are subject to continuation based on availability of bond funds and the employee will be terminated without right of appeal when such funds are no longer available.

Education and Experience:
Building Inspector I – Equivalent to two (2) years of college course work in construction inspection or technology, pre-engineering or a field related to the work or completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a recognized trade AND two (2) years of full-time journey-level experience in the specified trade area. Must possess a valid ICC or other national recognized certification by the department in one of the following: commercial building inspector, commercial electrical inspector, commercial mechanical inspector, commercial plumbing inspector, commercial inspector or residential inspector. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Building Inspector II – In addition to the above: One (1) year of full-time experience in the inspection and enforcement of building codes. Must possess a valid ICC or other national recognized certification by the department in one of the following: commercial building inspector, commercial electrical inspector, combination inspector, commercial mechanical inspector, commercial plumbing inspector, commercial inspector or residential inspector.

Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.
