The immediate vacancy is with the Department of Public Safety at the Hawaii Community Correctional Center in Hilo.

As a condition of employment with the State of Hawaii, each qualified candidate who has been given a conditional offer of employment must show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination and shall be fully vaccinated by his/her/their employment start date. Please note that the COVID-19 vaccination policy above will apply to both new hires not currently employed by the State of Hawaii Executive branch, as well as current State of Hawaii Executive Branch Employees who are being considered for placement into another (change in position number) State of Hawaii Executive Branch position. Therefore, the COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement Acknowledgement form shall be provided to and completed by all prospective State Executive Branch hires (new hires or current staff changing position numbers) that have been given a conditional offer of employment.
Verification of an individual’s vaccination status or claim for reasonable accommodation will be conducted at the time of a conditional offer for all prospective candidates. The Request for Criminal History Record Clearance form (HRD 329C) and the COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement Acknowledgement form shall be completed and returned to our office within three (3) days of receiving the conditional offer. Prospective employees should not give notice to their current employer until they receive a final offer of employment. A final offer of employment is contingent upon passing the background check and verification of the prospective employee’s vaccination status and/or approval of reasonable accommodation.
Duties Summary
Classifies clothing for washing; determines soap formulae and solutions for removing stains; supervises helpers performing various laundry tasks; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:
Experience: Three (3) years of commercial or institutional laundry experience. Some of the experience must have demonstrated knowledge of the operation and care of commercial or institutional washers, extractors and tumblers or driers.
Driver’s License: Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment.
Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement: As required by the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA), Federal law states that “….an agency shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with inmates and who:
(1) Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution.
(2) Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse.
(3) Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in #2 above.
(4) Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.
Other Requirements: Applicants who are conditionally offered employment or conditionally approved for movement into positions with the Department of Public Safety shall be subject to drug screening, as required by Federal, State or local laws or departmental policy; and will be subject to an intensive background check.
