Pharmacy Medication History Interns work under the direct supervision of registered pharmacists and are responsible for interviewing patients and evaluating information from third parties to document a complete home medication list. Pharmacy Medication History Interns do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist.
Additional accountabilities will include:
- General knowledge of the principles and practices of professional pharmacy
- Knowledge of generic and brand name terminology
- Knowledge of pharmacological and legal classification of drugs
- Knowledge of medical terminology and medical abbreviations
- Knowledge about calculating medication doses.
- Ability to establish successful contacts with the public and hospital personnel that are simple advisory, explanatory and interpretive in nature
- Ability to deal with a variety of patients in a wide range of stressful situations
- Ability to utilize resources available to assist in pharmaceutical care
- Knowledge of the laws relating to pharmacy practice
- Knowledge of hospital or retail pharmacy’s procedures for filling, dispensing and billing prescriptions.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Currently enrolled in an accredited pharmacy program or a graduate of an accredited pharmacy program Licensure:
Must be registered as a pharmacy intern with Minnesota State Board of Pharmacy before starting.
Preferred Qualifications:
Pharmacy students finishing first or second professional year with ability to work a minimum of every other weekend rotating schedule plus one week night per week.
