DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
Reporting to the Administrative Officer, this position is in the facility mailroom and work involves the performance of routine duties in the distribution and routing of mail for the facility and offenders. Applicant must be able to read, comprehend, and apply policy and procedure concerning processing of offender and facility mail. Employee performs simple repetitive tasks daily in the sorting and distribution of all types of mail including, parcel post. Person in this position will have contact with incarcerated offenders and staff on daily basis. Applicant communicates with other staff, general public, and offenders in verbal and written form via in person, telephone, and computer. Job responsibilities include; but are not limited to, the following:
Operating postage meter machines and copiers as well as daily computer entry.
Carrying out assignments in accordance with an established schedule.
Working independently and under general supervision with routine evaluation of job performance
Delivering and picking up US Mail, Interoffice Mail and courier mail on a scheduled basis.
Sorting mail by address and by type.
Signing for and delivering special types of mail.
Distributing mail throughout facility, including offender dormitories.
Readdressing and rerouting mail as needed.
Packaging materials for shipping, handling heavy package and parcel post.
Being outside to deliver and retrieve mail in inclement weather conditions.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About Scotland Correctional Institution:
Scotland Correctional Institution is located in Laurinburg, North Carolina and houses up to 1,756 male offenders in a Close/Medium/Minimum custody facility.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of administrative experience
