Overview:
The Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) seeks a Vice President, Governmental Affairs. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, State Policy, this position provides comprehensive leadership, oversight, management and strategic development/implementation of state governmental affairs activities. Supervises department staff.
This position will require an ability to be present in Albany with limited notice, especially when the NYS legislature is in session. Also, there will be periodic travel to our headquarters located in Rensselaer, New York but a remote working environment may be considered within New York State.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Lead State Governmental Affairs representative to lawmakers and their staffs, other advocacy organizations, and state agencies and departments on key legislative issues
Oversees overall prioritization of legislative advocacy issues, strategy development and implementation
Collaborates internally and with outside organizations to achieve objectives
Advocates and negotiates on key legislation
Represents HANYS at legislative hearings, regional association meetings, HANYS Board and Committee Meetings, HANYS advocacy briefings, various outside associations and other appropriate internal and external groups
Facilitates the formulation of HANYS state legislative advocacy agenda, including coordinating diverse member and staff input
Oversees the strategic development and implementation of state legislative advocacy and lobby days
Communicates state political and legislative developments to the membership, including the HANYS Leadership
Initiates appropriate coalitions and serves on appropriate committees outside of HANYS
Maintains liaison with HANYS contract lobbyists and policy consultants
Review final content and/or develop state legislative advocacy materials, in collaboration with the Executive Staff and other HANYS divisions
Develops division priorities and workplan
Oversees compliance with state lobbying laws
