Job Title: Senior Accountant Reports To: Finance Director Supervision Exercised: Some supervision in the absence of Finance Director FLSA Status: Full Time/Non-exempt Prepared By: Finance Director and Human Resources Salary: $66,967/$32.20hr.- $96,265/$46.28hr. Position Objective: Performs professional accounting and administrative responsibilities in support of the Citys accounting systems and processes. Assist/backup Finance Director with advanced accounting/financial matters including budgeting, year-end financial close, journal entries, system management/development, and new accounting standards implementation. Assist with process improvements, monitoring compliance, and maintaining financial compliance and integrity in all areas of finance with the City. Prepare financial reports and assist with audit and financial statement preparation. Duties and Responsibilities: Develop and maintain financial records and budgets for newly adopted City component units including Craig Urban Renewal Authority and Craig Housing Authority. Monitor compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and City of Craigs municipal code. Reconciles assigned general ledger accounts to subsidiary ledgers or external statements. Generates daily, monthly, and annual journal entries to maintain general ledger accuracy. Monitors operation of computer programs for budgetary, payroll, and inventory. Consults with software support on software issues. Assists in annual audit. Maintains inventory of fixed assets. Maintains and sorts records for storage in safe and electronic storage. Closes out year end on computer. Other Finance Duties: Assist with implementation and ongoing requirements relating to GASB 87 and GASB 96. Prepares monthly reports, reconciliations, and journal entries as assigned. Prepares quarterly and annual financial reports. Reconciles annual payroll reports. Prepares federal, state, and local tax reports and returns. Track and report on grant expenditures and reimbursement requests as assigned and monitor for compliance with various grant program requirements. Review general ledger transactions for accuracy in account posting. Provide assistance and backup for utility billing, accounts payable, sales tax, and Finance Director. Assist with implementation of additional ERP software components to streamline/enhance functionality including purchase orders and budgeting software reports. Other duties as assigned. Advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of computerized accounting systems, creating and using computer spreadsheets, databases and word processing programs and the ability to apply that knowledge to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position. Requires knowledge of compliance, licensing, enforcement and educating citizens and vendors on sales tax collections and issues. Strong oral and written communication skills. Mental Demands: Attention to detail and accuracy. Follows established procedures or develops better procedures, proofs work, working knowledge of accounting, bookkeeping procedures. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Education/Experience: BS/BA in accounting or business administration with a minimum three (3) years experience preferably in government or public sector. Working Conditions: Stressful; frequent interruptions; working under deadlines; attention to accuracy. Occasionally deals with difficult customers. Physical Demands: Minimal; sedentary; office environment; basic coordination and manual dexterity.
