Summary
The International Logistics Manager is responsible for all aspects of the flow of goods for domestic and international traffic and shipping of warehouse automation projects in compliance with tariff & customs regulations and company requirements & policies. The role covers the planning and optimization of routes and modes of transport, the processing of import and export documents and the management of customs procedures.
Responsibilities
Essential job functions and position requirements include:
· Negotiate rates and contracts with freight providers, including ocean/ air freight, trucking, LTL, parcel service providers.
· Liaise between key external stakeholders (forwarders, customs, ports, shipping lines, government agency), suppliers, internal stakeholders (purchasing, project execution, site management), and customers to provide efficient, reliable, and fast services and updates.
· Plans, executes manages, coordinates, resolves, and oversees all aspects of the flow of goods for international and domestic traffic & shipping, including importation from abroad (primarily Europe and South America) to the company’s and or customer’s US and Mexico locations.
· Provide and proofread shipping documents (Bill of Ladings, Form E, Packing List, Invoices, etc.) with customs and clients, ensuring accuracy of details and allowing zero room for errors.
· Submitting shipping documents to customs or brokers for customs processing.
· Maintain accurate and proper documentation of shipment details in freight system.
· Responsible for computation, filing, and payment of Bureau of Customs duties and taxes.
· Responsible for application, maintenance, and renewal of necessary permits (Import Permit, Accreditations, FDA certificates, etc.)
· Expedite release of shipments by following up and coordinating with stakeholders responsible for customs processing and monitor shipment departure, arrival, and clearance statuses to ensure prompt release of shipment.
· Coordinate customs clearance status with internal stakeholders to ensure proper communication of information and timely delivery of each shipment.
· Inform internal stakeholders and clients when a potential demurrage or detention event could occur.
· Prepare and submit accurate daily/monthly reports required by management and customers.
· Responsible for company’s compliance with import and export regulations.
· Will support local shipping responsibilities and operations / may act as back up to shipping lead.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
· Bachelor’s Degree in BS Customs Administration or supply chain related field; or equivalent directly related industry experience.
· At least 5 years working experience in the field of logistics, specifically import/export.
· Highly knowledgeable on Customs processes and laws, including U.S. Customs Tarif (HTSUS).
· Thorough knowledge of shipping regulations and policies.
· Experience with U.S Importer, air, ocean or project forwarder.
· Proficiency in managing systems and using different technological tools to complete tasks.
· Has a strong sense of growth and development; pushing out innovative ideas and managing those ideas through effective multi-tasking, stakeholder management, all the while delivering them within the deadline.
· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Must be good communicator; strong written and verbal English proficiency, can cross-collaborate with multiple departments and carry out changes and updates to team members.
· Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
· Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
· Fluent in Spanish is a plus.
