Primary responsibility is to develop an efficient transportation route plan for store delivery orders. Position is responsible to optimally and effectively route all Kroger DC and Manufacturing store orders, inclusive of backhaul and salvage return. Job includes effectively communicating with various customers including Kroger DC and Manufacturing Plants, Transportation Providers and the Regional Transportation Team. Plan all outbound store delivery orders, while meeting Precise Delivery Times (PDT’s), maximizing trailer cube and minimizing miles driven while also reducing empty miles.
Plan, schedule, and route vendor pickups as DSD backhaul returns.
Assist in updating and maintaining TR routing environment.
Maintain accurate route plan data from daily routing sessions and report results as requested.
Review Transportation Metrics to suggest and implement steps to achieve improvements.
Perform “what if” routing analysis and continually strive to find more efficient ways to route and reduce transportation costs.
Coach and cross-train fellow associates.
Work with limited supervision.
Work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet timelines.
Ability to adjust and adapt to change.
Ability to memorize / retain geographic locations and addresses.
Daily communications with DC’s and Transportation providers.
Ability to identify and communicate system issues quickly and effectively.
Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Minimum of 2 years of extensive experience in Transportation Planning Operations or 4-year college science degree preferred.
Strong computer skills with proficiency Microsoft Office software programs (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
Good listening, organizational, and time management skills
Highly analytical with the ability to understand and resolve complex operational issues involving numerous ever changing variables and constraints.
Creativity to identify new methods and processes, determine impact, and develop implementation plan.
Ability to work off scheduled hours inclusive of weekends, nights, and holidays.
General knowledge of dedicated transportation/freight dispatch operations and systems.
2-4 years’ extensive experience preferred with progressive responsibilities in a logistics transportation environment.
Strong computer skills with proficiency in transportation management systems.
Team oriented leadership experience preferred.
Preferred experience with warehouse shipping/receiving, supply chain, and general freight hauling, DSD, and backhauling transportation operations.
