Job Description Hearst has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic branding and design expert to lead and manage the central, award-winning Creative Communications team. This is a central team for the corporation as a whole, which creates content for corporate divisions, such as Human Resources and Benefits, high-level executives and partners with divisions and units on project work. Reporting to the VP of Communications, you will oversee a talented design and production team to bring projects and initiatives to life that inform and inspire Hearst s 24,000 global colleagues, our division s many clients and all the communities we serve. Responsibilities include corporate website, email and newsletters, advertising and marketing, annual reviews and special projects, print, digital, event and social initiatives. Position Summary/Objective The VP/ Executive Creative Director provides leadership in concept, design and production for Hearst corporate marketing materials including email and newsletters, advertisements, corporate website, annual reviews and special projects, print, digital, event and social initiatives. Working with the VP Communications, the VP/ Executive Creative Director establishes the visual strategy for Hearst and guides the development of Hearst branding, ensuring consistency and the highest level of creative accomplishment across all Creative Communications projects. The VP/ Executive Creative Director serves as a consultant and partner to Hearst Executives across divisions and businesses on project concept and designs, to reflect core Hearst branding and business unit distinction. Inspire, develop, mentor, motivate, and hire a passionate and highly talented team of producers and designers with a wide variety of design, coding and UX skill sets. Set standards for quality and creativity for the team, ensuring consistency of visual strategy and branding across all Hearst divisions and businesses. Establish processes and practices to ensure consistency in quality standards and style for all projects and that project deadlines are met. Promote smart problem-solving strategies with clients, support collaboration within Creative Communications and across Corporate Communications and Corporate Events and ensure this is the team s approach with all clients and projects. Proactively seek opportunities for development and skill enhancement for the team, through assignment of projects, recommendations for training, and by identifying opportunities for promotion. Ensure up-to-date team capabilities on design and marketing trends in all forms of visual communications, continuously exploring cutting-edge, current and unique design styles and imagery, sharing trends and tools within the team. Deep understanding of corporate marketing initiatives, priorities and strategy, ensuring that the strategy is communicated within the team and is reflected in all Creative Communication projects. Expertise in knowledge of the businesses of Hearst, understanding individual brand strategies and market positioning to ensure a consistently modern voice. Manage assignment of projects across the Creative Communications team, procuring and engaging third party resources as necessary, based on staff capacity, skill set and project priorities. Establish and communicate department goals for the Creative Communications team, reflecting overall Hearst communications strategy. Manage Creative Communications budget, optimizing both internal and external resources to create efficiencies and support Communications unit s goals. Manage high profile projects from concept through to delivery. Competencies Demonstrated experience as a creative executive at a global, world-class organization. Effective management experience, managing through managers and nimble, matrixed teams in a fast-paced environment. Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, able to flex from partnering with Executives on high profile projects to mentoring staff. Outstanding collaboration skills, solution-oriented, able to work across multiple functions, businesses, internal and external organizations with confidence and executive presence. Thorough knowledge of creative communications design and production processes for varied products and materials. Ability to manage shifting priorities, understand and capitalize on strengths within the team and identify needed talent. Passion for innovation, creativity, partnership and storytelling plus an understanding of how well-executed design supports business imperatives. Supervisory (Management) Responsibility Management responsibility for Creative Communications team through direct management of the senior management team. Support department managers to ensure that effective performance management is provided for all team members.
