Position description
The UC Davis Department of Neurology is recruiting a senior leader at the Professor level in the Regular or In-Residence series as Vice Chair, Strategy and Planning and Section Chief of Epilepsy, Sleep and Neurodiagnostics.
The Vice Chair of Strategy and Planning will lead department-wide strategy and major business planning initiatives to position the department for future success and accelerate growth in the region. As Section Chief of Epilepsy, Sleep and Neurodiagnostics this leader will provide leadership, support and strategic planning within the Section and participate in the leadership and shared governance of the Department.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Vice Chair of Strategy and Planning will be responsible for the overall growth strategy of the Department of Neurology’s inpatient and outpatient clinical services including clarifying vision, identifying priorities, implementing processes and creating performance metrics; establish long-range objectives and monitor performance of clinical services; develop plans for improving physician and patient satisfaction in conjunction with Vice Chairs of Inpatient and Outpatient Neurology; develop efficient financial models for use of Advanced Practice Providers in conjunction with Vice Chairs of Inpatient and Outpatient Neurology; and serve as primary liaison with UC Davis Health leaders focused on building regional relationships for our specialty services. S/He will also work with the Vice-Chairs of Research and Education to develop and forward strategies to promote the advancement of the department’s research and educational missions.
As Section Chief of Epilepsy, Sleep and Neurodiagnostics, the candidate will be expected to provide leadership, management and motivation to the section; direct section clinical activities; direct section instructional and educational activities; promote innovative multidisciplinary, collaborative research related to the specialty; collaborate with department education leaders to lead specialty training programs for trainees; and ensure a safe, equitable and inclusive workplace. S/He will also act as Director of the UC Davis Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, will assure continued certification as a Level IV Center by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC), and develop and lead an Intraoperative Monitoring Program. The Section Chief will advocate and represent the vision and goals of the section in alignment with the mission and priorities of the Neurology Department and the Chair.
As Academic Senate faculty member responsibilities include clinical service in epilepsy and intraoperative neuromonitoring; teaching to medical students, residents, and fellows; conducting and producing scholarly work, clinical/translational research; a record of peer-reviewed publications; success in obtaining extramural funding, as applicable; and University service. All responsibilities will be further determined based on faculty series.

Qualifications
* MD or MD/PhD with board-certification in Neurology and Epilepsy.
* Possess or be eligible for a California Medical License on or before start date.
* Experience leading a NAEC Level IV Comprehensive Epilepsy program and a robust Intraoperative Neuromonitoring service.
* Successful, sustained, and impactful track record of high-impact scholarship and independent grant funding utilizing intracranial EEG recording in humans to advance the understanding of cognition and speech.
* Strong interpersonal skills, the capacity to work collaboratively and effectively with others, and an ability to inspire colleagues and staff to achieve excellent results.
* History of successful mentorship of junior faculty.
* Accomplished academic record to meet the criteria of Full Professor level faculty appointment at the University of California.
* Evidence of commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
