Position Overview

The Benefits and Compensation Manager is responsible for directing and planning the day-to-day operations of group benefits programs (group health, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, life insurance, travel and accident plan, flexible spending plan, health savings account plan, retirement plans, etc.), as well as guiding administration of the company’s compensation program and championing our Wellbeing program.

The Benefits and Compensation manager provides excellent customer service and designs quality benefits plans. The administrator investigates new benefits programs, evaluates and improves existing programs, and supervises and monitors benefits administration.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Benefits programs

• Coordinating with Insurance Brokers as appropriate, research employee benefits plans and vendors to identify those that present the best value.
• Design, recommend and implement new benefits programs.
• Negotiate with vendors and administrators for best plans, options and rates.
• Serve as primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators.
• Oversee transfer of data to external contacts for services, premiums and plan administration.
• Document and maintain administrative procedures for assigned benefits processes.
• Ensure compliance with applicable government regulations. Ensure timeliness and accuracy of required reporting and fees.
• Oversee daily benefits processing. Handle enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, accident and death claims, rollovers, QDROs, QMCSOs, distributions, loans, hardships and compliance testing.
• Oversee maintenance of employee benefits files, maintain group benefits database and update employee payroll records.
• Gather employee data and oversee the processing of monthly billings and the preparation of vouchers for payment of administrative fees for all group plans.
• Audit the accuracy and performance of functions performed by support staff.
• Analyze current benefits, evaluating the use, services, coverage, effectiveness, cost, plan experience and competitive trends in benefits programs, and identify the company’s stance.
• Provide customer service support to internal and external customers. Develop communication tools to enhance employee understanding of, and appreciation for, the company’s benefits package.
• Design and distribute materials for benefits orientations, open enrollment and summary plan descriptions. Provide training and support to group benefits associates, home office associates and the field staff.
• Champion Pyle’s Wellness program. Monitor industry trends and coordinate with Wellbeing vendors to evaluate and recommend programs. With the assistance of HR field support personnel, implement program that provide real, measurable returns by improving employee Wellness and Wellbeing.

Compensation programs

• Conduct job analyses to determine the appropriate salary level according to compensation guidelines and policy formulated by the Human Resources Department.
• Advise management on compensation actions for employees.

• Analyze organizational pay practices and make recommendations for salary changes to ensure equity.

• With the assistance of an outside consultant who is expert in compensation programs:

• Recommend changes to compensation policies, as needed, to establish and maintain competitive rates.
• Analyze, complete and conduct compensation surveys.
• Assist in the development and updating of salary ranges.
• Using software designed for this purpose, monitor the marketplace to ensure compensation programs are competitive and appropriately positioned.

• Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft products, including PowerPoint; experience with HRIS and benefits databases. Familiarity with Ultimate Kronos Group HRIS software helpful.
• Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment with associates.
• Effective planning and priority setting. Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Thorough knowledge of plan designs.
• Ability to understand, evaluate and make judgment on proposals (RFPs).
• Knowledge of benefits contract language.
• Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits programs, including the ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, HIPAA, Medicare, COBRA, and Social Security and DOL requirements.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and compensation.
• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or related required.
• Five years’ experience administering benefits programs required.
• Certified Benefits Professional.
• SHRM-CP or SHRM SCP helpful.
• Some experience administering compensation programs preferred.

Travel: Up to 15% -20% of time.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk or hear. Occasionally, the employee will need to stand, walk, climb stairs, and drive a vehicle.
