The Opportunity
This position works out of our Irving, TX location in the Core Lab Division. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments and informatics systems are often the first step in patient care decision making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.
As the Senior Engineer, you’ll lead and executes engineering activities to support continuous improvement projects for new and on-market products and processes. They develop networks involving cross functional groups to assist in development of new capabilities and or process improvements, and proactively identifies opportunities for product or process improvements.
What You’ll Work On
Performs assignments of a very complicated or difficult nature requiring a high degree of technical competence and process improvement knowledge.
Willingness to become a Subject Matter Expert in Design Control and Design Planning and answer questions for teams that need assistance.
Acts as lead for process improvement projects supporting both product and process groups.
Conceives and plans projects to explore product or process problems, defines and selects new concepts and approaches to the design or development of new or improved products or processes.
Interfaces with product team members, PCB designers, manufacturing or design engineer, R&D, marketing, regulatory (internal), site engineering, Instrument Development managers, document control, and operations.
Creates or executes protocols for validation of complex system functions.
Serves in Multiple Team Roles: Serves as leader, contributor, facilitator, consultant, technical expert, arbitrator, evaluator according to the needs of the team and task.
Motivates Others: Keeps morale high by encouraging others, giving positive feedback, and setting a good example, makes and keeps commitments.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in an Engineering or closely related discipline with five or more years progressive work experience.
Four to six years progressive work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Work experience in a highly regulated industry or other types of companies/industries: Consumer Products, Aerospace, Automotive, Military Hardware, Medical Devices, Electro-Mechanical Design or Packaging.
Software/Systems: CAD/CAE Modeling (SolidWorks, ProE, 3D/2DAutoCAD), preferably with some machining knowledge.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering/Scientific Field.
7 + years of experience working in mechanical design or engineering.
Strong understanding of Process Improvement activities, lean six-sigma body of knowledge, with a six-sigma green belt, six-sigma black belt, or Certified Quality Engineering certification a plus.
Demonstrated ability to lead teams and utilize data to make decisions and influence stakeholders.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to act as liaison with other groups and organizations.
Agile and software experience/knowledge is a plus.
Prior medical device experience: electro-mechanical, chemical, or biochemical technologies as they pertain to the design, integration, evaluation, and commercialization of diagnostic systems.
