In this position, you will be responsible for providing critical strategic direction and serving as the operational lead for the creation, development, and advancement of access, equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives and resources in oral health education. You will make a major contribution to ADEA with your ability to serve as an advisor and subject matter expert in coaching the ADEA President/CEO, senior leadership, ADEA staff, ADEA members, and external stakeholders on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB). The CDO is a DEIB thought leader who advocates across all pillars of the mission. You will provide subject matter expertise and apply your strong writing, speaking and presentation skills frequently as you collaborate with leaders in academic oral health, health professions education, professional associations/societies, governmental entities, higher education institutions, corporate leaders, and other key organizations to advance and further DEIB, health equity, and embed inclusive excellence throughout oral health education.
As ADEA’s Chief Diversity Officer, you will be responsible for keeping abreast of contemporary national and international trends and best practices and maintain a nuanced understanding of the complexity of issues and strategies needed to create and sustain a welcoming, humanistic, and inclusive climate for all persons within oral health education and the academic health professions. You will assess and monitor policies, practices, and initiatives, leveraging data to develop proactive strategies that support the improved recruitment, retention, and leadership advancement of historically underrepresented and marginalized persons (e.g., students, faculty, staff, administrators, residents, and fellows) in oral health education. You will also use your expertise to develop resources, training opportunities, and educational resources for oral health education on topics such as inclusive pedagogy, well-being/resiliency, health equity, providing culturally responsive care, structural competency, cultural competency, and advancing inclusive language to prepare academic oral health stakeholders to address the oral health and overall health care needs of an increasingly diverse dynamic world. The Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) reports to the ADEA President/CEO and supervises ADEA’s Access, Diversity and Inclusion team, consisting of two direct reports and three indirect reports.
