Description:
In accordance with assigned position, the Food Services Sanitation Asst is responsible for such duties
as: washing dishes, silverware, utensils, pots, pans and equipment in accordance with health, safety, and
sanitary procedures; retrieving meal trays from patient care units throughout the medical center;
cleaning floors and emptying garbage; replenishing floor stock; taking and recording temperatures of
refrigerators, freezers, and dish machine; and maintaining cleanliness of the nursing units’ refrigerators
and/or freezers.
Scrapes, washes, rinses and sanitizes service ware, equipment and work
area. Handles, mixes, stores and uses chemicals safely and according to department standards.
Twice during the assigned shift, takes and records dish machine temperatures
Unloads soiled dishes from carts and conveyor belt; cleans conveyors
throughout assigned shift. Maintains separate clean and dirty areas. Washes hands when moving
from area to area. Ensures water temperatures and levels are correct in all tanks of machine
throughout shift, following established sanitation standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required for this position. Current State of Washington
Food Handlers Permit required. Also required are: demonstrated competency in safely and/or accurately
operating a variety of equipment including, but not limited to: multiple-tank flight-type commercial dish
machine, dish conveyor belt, soap dispensing equipment, garbage disposal, trash compactor, high
pressure hose, silverware soak sink, three-compartment sink, dish dollies, booster heater and mop
buckets; ability to manage several tasks and set priorities in a high-volume, fast-paced environment;
ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language at the 8th grade level; ability to
interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, recipes and procedure
manuals; ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; ability to
effectively communicate in one-on-one situations with customers and other staff.
