The Parts and Service Clerk
The Albemarle County Department of Transportation is actively recruiting a Parts and Service Clerk to join our team. The successful candidate will perform clerical and administrative work in the operation of an automotive parts storeroom. Performs a variety of routine office and typing duties.
The Expectations
Essential functions and responsibilities of Parts and Service Clerk include, but are not limited to, the following:
Checks quantity of items received against invoices and places new stock in storage;
Dispenses supplies, materials and parts as needed;
Takes periodic inventories;
Operates a variety of office machines;
Enters data into the computer;
Picks up and delivers parts as required;
Answers the phone, takes messages, make appointments, gives information over the phone;
Types letters, reports and a variety of documents from rough draft, clean copy, using typewriter or word processing equipment;
Files letters, cards, forms, and books, etc.,
Orders parts by phone;
May be required to serve as a substitute bus driver;
Performs related tasks as required.
THE QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school with a minimum of one year of keyboarding and/or computer course work. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Satisfactory health condition as certified by competent medical authority. Must demonstrate the ability to successfully complete the Virginia Education Department training curriculum for school bus drivers and obtain a Commercial Driver’s License with appropriate school bus endorsements within the probationary period. Parts and Automotive shop experience. proficient with Microsoft windows applications and fleet management software.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Some knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, equipment, and clerical techniques; some knowledge of business English, spelling, and arithmetic; ability to type accurately; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. English language proficiency is required per Code of Virginia 46.2-341.14.
THE PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS
Work is typically performed between an office setting and a storage room. Frequent bending, stooping, and lifting of at least 75 pounds is required. Frequent contact with internal departments and external vendors is required. Occasional contact with students is necessary.
THE SALARY RANGE
The salary range for this position is $16.06 – $19.27 per hour. Starting offer is based on applicable education beyond minimum, experience and internal equity. The position also provides excellent benefits including 12 paid holidays, paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance options with employer contribution, employer-paid life insurance, VRS retirement, and continuing education/training opportunities. This is a full time, FLSA Non-exempt position.
