Position Summary
Performs professional accounting work of a detailed and varied nature that involves maintenance of ledgers and journals, prepares routine analyses; examines and reconciles a variety of accounting records/transactions and prepares various financial reports/summaries as directed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Examines a variety of accounting documents to verify accuracy of computations; and to ascertain that all transactions are properly recorded in accordance with pertinent policies and procedures and are recorded according to acceptable accounting principles and standards.
2. Reviews financial statements, summaries, and charts or other exhibits to be used for preparation of financial reports or updating records.
3. Leads and trains accounting clerks in the performance of their duties.
4. Reconciles assigned bank statements to appropriate general ledger accounts, reconciles reports and financial data
5. Processes EFT transactions and communicates with related bank staff.
6. Prepares a variety of balance sheet schedules as required.
7. Performs assigned functions relating to accounting analysis and verification.
8. Prepares financial reports, statements, and summaries of a varied and detailed nature for assigned areas of responsibility.
9. Assists in the accounts payable and accounts receivable process, including, but not limited to, the review of disbursements for propriety.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
· Bachelor’s degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university. Finance (with at least 15 credits hours of accounting course work) or accounting preferred. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the applicant to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Experience
· Two (2) years of experience in Accounting or Finance preferred.
· One (1) year of experience with accounting software is desired.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Ability to prepare and submit clear and concise financial reports.
· Knowledge of general accounting principles and practices and financial reporting.
· Excellent organization and communication skills.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work with school system administrators, suppliers, and outside auditors.
· Ability to exercise initiative and good judgment in the timely execution of assigned responsibilities.
· Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
· Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS for employment in Grade C by new hire or transfer:
In addition to all the requirements of grade B listed above:
· Two (2) additional years continuous successful experience in finance and/or accounting required.
· Bachelor’s degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university. Finance (with at least 15 credits hours of accounting course work) or accounting required.
· Advanced working knowledge of general accounting principles and practices required.
· Proficient with financial reporting and decentralized accounting systems required.
· Demonstrated successful experience in lead, leadership role or equivalency required.
Career Ladder Requirements
Eligibility for Consideration for Advancement from Grade B to Grade C requires:
· Two (2) years continuous successful experience in the position at the Grade B level.
· Mastery of all duties and responsibilities of the position.
· Achievement of Professional Certification or evidence of course completion in pursuit of such certification.
· Evidence of completion of additional training that may be recommended by supervisor and/or participation in approved professional development programs or courses, approved in advance by the supervisor.
· Achievement of identified goals as they relate to the needs of the district and as established by the supervisor.
· Consistent maintenance of an effective and orderly work environment.
· Consistent compliance with general office procedures such as standards contained in the AACPS Employee Handbook; demonstration of discretion and excellent customer service; regular and punctual attendance; and building dress code, including wearing AACPS ID badge.
· Above Satisfactory overall job performance for two most recent consecutive years.
· Recommendation of the supervisor.
