Position Summary:

Through continuous training and personal development, the Spray Paint Technician shall be able to work in a fast-paced, high-tech environment. The Spray Paint Technician must be detail oriented and well organized. The ideal candidate should have significant experience spray painting all types of metals such as automotive bodies and components. The Spray Paint Technician must be willing to work with computers and be a motivated team player.

Essential Job Functions:

• Able to mask and prepare surfaces and assemblies with tape or paper to protect from paint.
• Spray paint equipment and parts with primer and finish paint as specified in work instructions
• Paint by hand areas that cannot be reached with a spray gun.
• Remove oils, grease, dirt, and paint, from equipment surfaces in preparation for paint using abrasives, solvents, brushes, washing tanks, or sandblasters.
• Pour paint into spray guns and adjust nozzles and paint mixes in order to get the proper paint flow and coating thickness.
• Must be able to apply paint with a spray gun and in conformance with all specifications
• Can utilize heat or oven paint drying techniques for special purpose finishes
• Can mix paints and other materials to specifications.
• Able to maintain facilities and spray-painting equipment in good working order.
• Sand equipment surfaces between coats of paint and/or primer in order to remove flaws and enhance adhesion for subsequent coats.
• Disassemble, clean, and reassemble sprayers and power equipment, using solvents, wire brushes, and cloths for cleaning duties.

Job Qualification:

Painter must be detail-oriented and dependable, can follow instructions and consistently produce good work. In addition to these general skills and personality traits, we are seeking candidates with the following skills.

• Experience in automotive or industrial equipment painting
• Experience wet painting using a gun
• Ability to differentiate between colors
• Ability to work on multiple priorities with frequent interruptions
• Ability to use hand and power tools and equipment
• Ability to work with all levels of employees
• Strong communication skills

Ability to use measurement equipment such as viscosity cups, thickness gages and gloss gages to check the makeup of the paint and use their understanding of chemistry to mix the appropriate compounds for the job.

Training and Experience:

• One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in auto body and paint technology through a technical school or community college

Physical Demands: The employee is required to:

• Stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
• Exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
• Exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or
• Exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Visual Acuity:

• Near acuity and accommodation are required for reading gauges, procedures, and measuring instruments.

Hearing Ability:

• Ability to monitor equipment sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action.

Working Conditions: The employee is subject to:

• High noise levels from operating machines.
• Physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts.
