An official City of West Sacramento application form must be filled out, in its entirety. It is the applicant’s responsibility to explain their qualifications fully and clearly. In addition, applicants must submit a resume and complete the required supplemental questionnaire (if applicable). Incomplete information on the application, resume and/or supplemental questionnaire may be cause for disqualification. Application packages will be reviewed and screened for qualifications. Additional screening criteria will be developed based on the supplemental questionnaire (if applicable).
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assignment Clerk is responsible for maintaining daily hearing schedules for all Judges, Visiting Judges and Juvenile/Domestic Magistrates.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assigns court dates before the 39 locations which includes Judge and/or Visiting Judge, Juvenile and Domestic Magistrate’s dockets for cases filed or continued by attorneys or the general public, children services workers & child support agency attorneys. Reschedules pending cases as requested by judges and magistrate
2. Continuous monitoring of eFlex for all electronic filings submitted.
3. Submit electronic filings by scanning and uploading to eflex.
4. Answer general, non-legal questions in person and by telephone pertaining to court hearings for court staff, attorneys and the general public.
5. Schedule bond hearings when e-filed by Clerks’ office.
6. Assist the magistrates, visiting judges and court officers with schedules and files. Review and schedule Judges’ daily docket and CPO hearings.
7. Confirms court hearing dates with required participants via telephone or in person.
8. Direct attorneys and the general public to assigned/designated courtrooms for court hearings or questions.
9. Distribute reports to judges, Visiting judges domestic and juvenile Magistrates and other departments of the courts dockets to Bailiffs, child support and detention personnel. Perform general clerical tasks (copying, faxing, screening calls, taking messages, scanning documents and e-filing them to the Clerk’s Office, etc.). Performs other related duties as requested by Assignment Commissioner and Assistants.

An applicant who qualifies for veterans’ preference and successfully places on an eligibility list for initial entrance into employment with the city shall be advanced one rank on the final eligibility list. Where there are five (5) or less qualified applicants, no veterans’ preference shall apply and all applicants shall be placed on the certification list forwarded to the departments for hiring consideration. The exercise of veterans’ preference shall be exhausted upon appointment to a regular position from an eligibility list.
