OVERVIEW
Responsible for local legislative affairs activities in the greater Atlanta area.
Activities include: monitoring and responding to pertinent legislative activities in all corresponding Counties and Municipalities; establishing an AAA presence and building on AAA political and business relationships; working with members on specific legislative issues; fostering campaign activities and relationships with specific elected officials through contributions and active participation in fundraising processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Issues & Advocacy
▪Monitor and advocate for the industry and its members in local government meetings as needed.
▪Familiarity with local codes and ordinances related to multifamily housing.
▪Field and respond to member, elected official, and staff policy inquiries.
▪Perform extensive research and analysis on policy proposals.
▪Draft communications to Association leadership explaining policy proposals in brief concise manner, request feedback from subject matter experts.
▪Develop policy position statements on behalf of industry from internal research and compiled member feedback.
▪Contribute content as requested in accordance with the departmental communications plan.
Relationships
▪Identify and foster internal and external stakeholder relationships including state and local elected officials, city and county staff, related associations, pertinent agencies, companies, technical experts, consultants, and association legal counsel.
Political Action Committee & Fundraising
▪Assist in the fundraising activities supporting the industry PAC, track contributions to candidates and assist in preparing scheduled PAC reports to the state.
REQUIRED SKILLS
▪Strong interpersonal talents and ability to easily build rapport with new contacts.
▪Ability to complete projects in a timely manner with minimum direction and supervision.
▪Strong research and analysis skills.
▪Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
▪Strong computer skills to include advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
▪Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
QUALIFICATIONS:
▪3-4 years of experience in local or state government affairs or public policy.
▪Bachelor’s degree, preferably in public Policy, Political Science or related field.
▪Knowledge of real estate or multi-family housing industry a plus
