Job Description Summary
SIGD at Auburn University invites candidates to apply for a one year (nine month / two semester) nontenure track visiting position for an appointment in the Graphic Design Program commencing August 2022. Candidates should specialize in teaching freshman-level 2-D and 3-D fundamentals that emphasize formal elements and principles of design and would be responsible for teaching first-year courses to pre-graphic design students within a professional degree program. Ability to teach drawing is a plus.
Responsibilities of the appointment are broken down as follows: 70% for teaching, 25% for research and scholarly related activity, and 5% for service. The teaching load consists of two design studios plus participation on a senior thesis committee per semester, subject to enrollment demand and or institutional policy. Candidates are expected to continue and/or develop an active program of scholarly, creative practice and funded research within the discipline that aligns with the SIGD / CADC and AU strategic plans.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must hold an M.F.A. in Graphic Design or related discipline from an accredited institution at the time employment begins. Previous teaching experience in a post-secondary education environment and/or professional experience is preferred.
Recent M.F.A. graduates are also encouraged to apply. The GDES program is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the academic community’s diversity and excellence through their teaching, funded research/creative scholarship, and service. Excellent interpersonal skills are required
Desired Qualifications
Desired candidates should have the ability to teach a variety of foundation graphic design studios and related courses, and demonstrate evidence of developing and maintaining funded research, scholarship or creative scholarship that has the potential to secure external funding and/or yield visibility and prestige to the program through publications, exhibitions, fellowships, etc.
