UNIT DESCRIPTION:

Beaumont has opportunities for Medical Technologists (Med Techs) to perform a variety of routine or specialized tests and procedures for use by physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients in one or more areas of work, such as Chemistry, Hematology/Coagulation, Immunohematology, Histocompatibility, Flow Cytometry, Molecular Pathology, Ancillary Testing, Microbiology and other specialty departments.

• Midnights: $15,000 sign-on bonus for full-time; $7,500 for part-time
• Afternoons: $10,000 sign-on bonus for full-time; $5,000 for part-time

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Laboratory Science or a related science (i.e., Biochemistry, Microbiology, etc.)
• Successful graduation from a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS)-accredited medical technology/clinical laboratory science/medical laboratory science clinical training program
• or successful graduation from a Categorical Technologist program under the auspices of an NAACLS-accredited medical technology/clinical laboratory science/medical laboratory science program
• or clinical internship proof of completion (e.g., hospital-based or university-based NAACLS-accredited program)

i. certificate of completion (hospital-based)

ii. “clinical practicum” designation on transcript (university-based)

• official ASCP BOC approval (e-mail letter) that confirms eligibility to take the certification exam
• completion of an NAACLS-accredited clinical internship or equivalent experience/training as required by the ASCP Board of Certification or other acceptable certifying agency/work experience approved by laboratory administration

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

Department policy requires U.S. certification, U.S. certification eligibility or certification assessment by one of the following agencies:

• ASCP Medical Laboratory Scientist – MLS(ASCP); effective Oct. 23, 2009
• ASCP Medical Technologist – MT(ASCP); prior to October 2009
• ASCP International Medical Laboratory Scientist – MLS(ASCPi); effective Jan. 1, 2015
• ASCP Technologist (categorical) certification – BB(ASCP), C(ASCP), H(ASCP), I (ASCP), M(ASCP) or MB(ASCP)
• AMT Medical Technologist – MT(AMT); after 2010
• NCA Clinical Laboratory Scientist – CLS(NCA); prior to October 2009 (no longer administered)
• NCA categorical certification: Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) in Chemistry/Urinalysis, Hematology, Immunohematology or Microbiology; prior to October 2009 (no longer administered)
• CGFNS/ICHP VisaScreen Credential Assessment equivalent to a Medical Technologist

Canadian Medical Laboratory Technologists maintain certification through the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO). Practicing in the United States deems these individuals “inactive” in Ontario, so they must maintain a required license with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) instead. This license must be renewed yearly via annual fee. If renewal does not occur after two years, their certification will become inactive.

Effective Jan. 1, 2015, U.S. and international candidates will take the same ASCP BOC MLS certification examination.
