Editorial Assistant, DoubledayThe Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group is seeking an Editorial Assistant to join the Doubleday imprint, reporting to an Executive Editor and Editor. We’re looking for an Editorial Assistant with a broad range of interests who will work closely with the editors on fiction and nonfiction. Our ideal candidate will be a fast but thoughtful reader who excels in time management and has a devotion to follow-through, confidence in communication, and top-notch organizational skills.Doubleday is a storied leader in literary and commercial publishing and is home to some of the most celebrated authors in the world, including Prize-winners Margaret Atwood, Colson Whitehead, and Hanya Yanagihara; critically acclaimed journalists Patrick Radden Keefe, Anne Applebaum, and Jane Mayer; and global bestsellers Kevin Kwan, John Grisham, and Michio Kaku.The Role:* Read and evaluate book proposals and manuscripts and log submissions* Write and edit catalog copy, flap copy, online copy, and launch sheets* Provide general administrative support, file expense reports, schedule meetings, route author payments, keep track of project due dates, execute mailings, and field questions from authors* Create contract information sheets, collect sales data and competitive title research* Work with authors, publishers, agents, and the managing editorial department to coordinate and track a manuscript through every stage of the production process* Act as a liaison between editorial and production, design, marketing, publicity, and sales departments* Prepare title information sheets* Initiate and respond to correspondence with authors and agents at all stages of the publishing processThe Essentials:* Widely read across non-fiction and fiction with a strong interest in publishing trends* A solutions-focused and goal-oriented mindset with the ability to multitask and prioritize across a breadth of administrative duties and long-term projects* Excellent written and verbal communication with strong follow-up skills* An organized self-starter with a clear eye for details both creatively and administratively* Ability to take initiative and anticipate needs no matter the environment* A fluency in adapting between autonomous and collaborative work* Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, Google Docs and OutlookEntry-level salary for this position is $45,000.
