Job Summary – Telecommunications Technician
This is a contract opportunity lasting 1 year with the possibility of extension. This job is in Richmond, VA.
Provide installation and maintenance support for telecommunications infrastructure including single mode fiber optic cable, microwave radio systems, transport routers, and DC power systems. This equipment is located in the Company’s Virginia and North Carolina service territories. In addition to ‘normal’ daily work, this position will be part of a team that provides 24×7 field support, at the direction of the Network Operations Center (NOC), for communication outages.
Desired Experience, Skills and Work Ethic/Qualifications
- Detailed knowledge and hands on experience with single mode fiber optic cable, fusion splicing, and installation best practices.
- Skilled in single mode fiber testing with a light meter and/or OTDR.
- Skilled in the installation of telecommunications equipment including running power leads, installing fuse panels, cable management, fiber management, cable terminations, and grounding.
- Skilled in the support, installation, and testing of microwave radio systems, elliptical waveguide, microwave antennas, and the necessary grounding for each component.
- Working knowledge of 48v DC power systems is required.
- Detailed knowledge and hands on experience with channel banks/multiplexers.
- Basic understanding of data networking.
- Must be safety conscious and detailed oriented.
- Effective computer skills including knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Products to include Visio, Power Point, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
