We want you to be a critical team member responsible for the development of Laser Communications Systems.

Perform measurements using polarization analyzers, optical spectrum analyzers, optical power meters, imaging cameras, optical transmitters, optical receivers, oscilloscopes, bit error rate testers, and other instruments
• Meticulously execute assembly and test procedures for free-space and fiber-optic components and systems for space-flight applications
• Help to maintain optics lab facilities, equipment, tools, and supplies
• Maintain good documentation of your work in laboratory notebooks and on computer systems
• Perform specialty optical fiber fusion splicing for high-reliability systems
• Operate lasers up to and including Class 4
• Support installation and testing of optical components, assemblies, and payload systems inside thermal chambers, vacuum chambers, shock and vibration stages
• Build and align free-space optics assemblies and testbeds (lenses, mirrors, beam splitters, etc.)
• Fiber-optic assembly involving high-reliability fusion splicing processes for specialty fiber types
• Work inside a cleanroom environment
• Work with ESD-sensitive devices and systems
• Occasional field work and travel may be required

Required Education and Exerience

• Associates Degree in optics, photonics, or related discipline.
• Detail-oriented
• Enjoy working on complex systems and interdisciplinary engineering teams
• Enthusiastic about learning new skills and training, such as certifications for handling devices sensitive to electrostatic discharge (ESD) and working inside cleanrooms
• Experience with optical fiber handling and routing
• Experience handling and aligning free-space optical components, such as lenses, mirrors, polarizers and beam splitters
• Experience operating laser systems
• Experience performing measurements using optical communications test equipment, such as optical spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, polarization analyzers, optical power meters, waveform generators, bit error rate testers, etc.
• US. Citizen with ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance

Desired Qualifications:

• B.S. in optics, electrical engineering, applied physics, or related discipline.
• 3+ years professional experience
• Programming skills, including LabVIEW, Matlab, and Python
