Vice President of Research and Economic Development
Boise State University
Boise State University, a growing metropolitan institution recently named to the Top
50 in Innovation, seeks a creative, entrepreneurial, and strategic leader to serve as its next Vice President for Research and Economic
Development (VPRED).
Reporting directly to the President, the VPRED serves as the institutional advocate and facilitator for the
university’s research, scholarship, creative activities, and discovery. The VPRED is responsible for programmatic excellence in
research and its integration into the graduate and undergraduate learning experience. The VPRED coordinates the development and realization
of institutional research goals that are consonant with Boise State’s mission and status as a metropolitan university. It is the central
position for advancing research programs and supporting faculty across the university as Boise State strengthens and advances from its
position as an R2 research institution.
Boise State provides an innovative, transformative, and equitable educational environment
that prepares students for success and advances Idaho and the world. It has undergone a period of unprecedented growth and dramatic
transformation within the last decade. Proud of its “Blue Turf Thinking” which reflects its scrappy, creative, and boundary
breaking approach to the academic enterprise, Boise State University continues to see significant increases in its student enrollment,
graduate programs, physical infrastructure, federal funding, and research partnerships. It is nationally recognized for innovation and has
been described by the Chronicle of Higher Education as a university that is “demonstrably on the move.”
The next VPRED
will be an integral part of the leadership team who will strategically grow the research and creative activity enterprise, while also
enhancing the infrastructure to support it. The VPRED will collaborate broadly across the institution to create a culture of research that
enhances faculty and student participation and success in research, scholarship, and creative activities and integrates research into the
learning experience. The VPRED will also expand partnerships in business-centric Idaho and engage with key stakeholders in government and
non-government sectors.
