CACI is looking for an Space Photonic Systems Engineer to join our NSIS (National Security & Innovative Solutions) division, supporting our photonics team– we are expanding! Our laser communications technology is helping NASA provide high-definition video from the International Space Station, and to explore asteroids 250 million miles away. What You’ll Get to Do:
Support the engineering effort for programs that develop new photonic technology and custom hardware for free-space optical communications, laser transmitters for remote sensing, RF photonics, and other applications
Support the growth of the Photonics team by contributing new ideas for the technical growth of our organization, championing our technology in personal interactions with customers, and proposal creation
Work closely with colleagues to verify physical, software and electronics requirements of photonic technologies through environmental testing, performance testing, and other laboratory experiments.
Work with colleagues to develop requirements verification test plans, with limited oversight from management
Document requirements at the systems and subsystems levels, for hardware and software, and update as needed
Document requirements verification procedures and verification results
Work closely with the hardware fabrication team to develop appropriate build and test procedures
Responsible for making moderate to significant improvements of systems or products to enhance performance of program/project.
Problems and issues faced in testing can be numerous and undefined, and require detailed information gathering, analysis and investigation to understand. A successful candidate is one who demonstrates ingenuity and creativity in developing new technical solutions to solve difficult and moderately complex problems, which are often solved through drawing from prior experience and analyses of issues.
Develop accurate estimates of resources and task intervals for program managers
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
Masters in Engineering, Physics, or a related field and a minimum of 3 years of related experience
Experience with one of more of the following: optical communications, fiber optics, fiber lasers, high-power bulk lasers, nonlinear optics, ultrafast lasers, and RF photonics
Demonstrated experience in laboratory testing of complex optical systems
Demonstrated experience in test procedure generation and technical writing skills for test documents management
Deep knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
Strong skills in instrumentation automation, data analysis and system simulations using Matlab, Python, C, and/or Labview)
Must be willing to pursue a security clearance
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
Research experience with atomic or optical clocks, clock distribution, and optical metrology
Demonstrated experience in environmental testing of complex optical systems for space applications
Demonstrated experience in vacuum systems and instrumentation
Demonstrated experience in proposal writing for US Government programs
