The City Inspector function of the City of Crisfield is charged with the responsibility of providing for the public safety, health and public general welfare in the built environment. This objective is accomplished through properly enforcing laws and regulation as adopted by the City of Crisfield.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Enforce regulations fairly, firmly, factually and with proper public relations skills. Understand and carry out oral and written directions. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Duties shall include review and approval of construction plans, making required inspections, issue or deny Certificates of Occupancy, issuance of Orders to correct violations, issuance of fines for violations, keeping adequate records and any other actions that may be required in order to adequately enforce the Codes of the City of Crisfield.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of building codes, methods, procedures and techniques used in the identification, interpretation and enforcement of building codes, effective public relations practices, and applicable state and federal regulations regarding ADA access. Inspector certification from the International Code Council.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Ability to recognize conditions that constitute code violations, use effective inter-personal techniques to interact with the public when explaining building codes and permit requirements.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to code enforcement.
Knowledge of the International Building Codes.
Knowledge of building design and construction technology.
Knowledge of computers and current office software applications, such as, word processing, databases, spreadsheets and E-mail.
Ability to diffuse potentially confrontational situations and resolve disputes.
Ability to adapt to changing techniques, technology and codes.
Demonstrated punctual, regular and reliable attendance is required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have a valid State of Maryland drivers’ license.
Certification by the International Code Council within one year of date of hire, if not certified when initially employed, as a condition of continued employment.
Attend training required to maintain ICC certification is a condition of continued employment
