The Supervisor-Public Safety Communications oversees, supervises, and participates in a wide range of communication efforts for the Police Department.
Essential Functions
1 Oversees the call takers answering phones in the Call center; monitors the use of appropriate customer service and the correct delivery of information; provides analysis and performance feedback to ensure the efficiency of the services.
2 Evaluates call taking and communications methods and operations; monitors the efficiency of services and implements updates to ensure effectiveness.
3 Supervises and monitors hiring and recruiting for the department; maintains a working relationship with the Police Personnel and Civil Service personnel to ensure that staffing and hiring needs are met.
4 Responds to requests to fill vacancies through police announcements and other communications; reviews all applicants that pass Civil Service to determines if qualifications meet or exceed expectations.
5 Coordinates and facilitates interview panels, submission of all paperwork, and preparation of letters of employment and onboarding activities.
6 Oversees the division open records section; reviews and evaluates incoming and outgoing open records requests; ensures requests are completed within a timely manner, and checks for record accuracy; coordinates with other agencies, offices, and departments to handle open records requests.
7 Performs a variety of payroll related work for personnel within the department; reviews and approves exceptional leave and overtime, documents changes for audits, and performs consistent reviews on employee cards.
8 Creates and develops consistent and professional communications standards throughout the department and its activities to promote success and meet goals.
9 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE:
Five (5) years experience in a public safety emergency call taking and/or dispatching position within a municipal, county, state or federal regulatory agency.
AND
One (1) year of experience with leadwork/supervisory responsibilities.
EQUIVALENCIES:
Associate degree (or higher) in any field plus three (3) years of specified experience including one (1) year of leadwork/supervisory responsibilities will meet the education and experience requirements.
LICENSE and CERTIFICATIONS:
Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Must be able to obtain Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and Texas Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center (TCIC/NCIC) certifications within probationary period.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must pass an intensive background check including polygraph and drug screen.
No felony or class A misdemeanor convictions.
No Class B misdemeanor convictions within the last ten (10) years.
Must be available for various shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.
Must be available for twenty-four/seven (24/7) call out.
PREFERENCES:
Effective oral and written communications skills.
MS Office skills.
Current TCOLE and/or TCIC/NCIC certifications a plus.

The salary listed on this job positing is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
For evaluation purposes, acceptable qualifying experience for all positions must have been in a paid capacity unless noted otherwise in the minimum qualifications for the posted position.
Additionally, 30+ hours per week will be counted as full-time employment and will receive full credit for the amount of time employed. A minimum of 15 through 29 work hours per week will be counted as part-time employment and will receive half credit for the amount of time employed.
