JOB SUMMARY
The City Management Fellow supports the activities of the City Manager’s Office under the supervision of the Assistant to the City Manager. The City Management Fellow will assist with technical and administrative support related to various functions of city government and special projects (as assigned). This position will work in a team setting and should have a broad interest in Municipal Government.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
· Assists the City Manager’s office in gathering data, analyzing information, and preparing reports.
· Assists with answering phone calls and interfacing with citizens coming to City Hall.
· Assists in tracking responses to requests from the public and City Council.
· Assists with the compilation and editing of public and internal documents disseminated by the City Manager’s office.
· Assists with creating presentations for Council and internal meetings.
· Maintains files and organizes related paperwork.
· Assists the public with general questions about the City and provides additional direction.
· Assists other departments as needed.
· Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A Bachelor’s Degree is required. The candidate must be enrolled in, or recently graduated from, an accredited college or university with an advanced degree in business, public administration, political science, or a related field.
The preferred candidate will have at least one (1) year of experience in local government.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
· Ability to handle multiple interruptions, multi-task, maintain confidentiality and discretion, follow complex oral instructions, communicate effectively, and work effectively with various personalities.
· Skilled in the use of small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
· Skilled in using computers for data entry and word processing.
· Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and an orientation towards customer service.
· Ability to supervise, organize, and communicate effectively.
· Ability to maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with others.
· Ability to cooperate with fellow employees as a team member.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSE, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
The candidate must have a valid Class C Texas driver’s license, or the ability to acquire one within ninety (90) days of hire. Must also have a reliable mode of transportation to and from work.
