The City of Lynnwood is seeking a Meter Reader/Office Assistant!
Individuals in this position serve as water meter technical support for the City of Lynnwood and provide administrative support for utility billing activities. The nature of the work is field service and clerical. The position is located in the Utility Billing Division of the Finance Department.
Essential Functions
Activate automatic meter reading components following installation of meters and transmitters (installation performed by Public Works staff).
Read residential, commercial and industrial water meters and record readings, either by manual or electronic methods when necessary due to automatic metering malfunction.
Inspect water meters during readings for damage and unauthorized connections or other malfunctions. Report broken or damaged meters and/or leaks to maintenance personnel.
May require maintaining meter readability by cleaning meter box interiors of excess dirt and debris.
Monitor readings to detect abnormal or fluctuating consumption patterns; note irregularities for the billing section. Notify customers of potential customer-side water leaks.
Investigate and respond to customer inquiries via phone, email, mail and in person.
Prepare necessary records and reports in accomplishing the major duties of the position, including the initial installation and final removal of meters from billing records.
Perform meter turn-offs and turn-ons for delinquent water bills and for customer service requests.
Place door hangers on residences or businesses for non-payment of water bills; may also place door hangers for notification of construction projects.
Assist in various clerical and record keeping duties and perform research related to account history.
Prepare invoices and purchasing card statements for payment.
Maintain filing systems, research files, and compile information and statistics relating to utility billing.
Perform data entry functions pertaining to Utility Billing systems.
Perform other projects as needed or assigned.
Maintain regular attendance.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and six months to one year related experience or an equivalent combination of related education and experience, valid Washington State Driver’s License and a driving record acceptable to the City’s insurance carrier.
