Salary Range – $14.28 – $18.19 per hour
This position monitors and patrols parking on the street, open lots and parking ramp in the downtown area to ensure drivers abide by State and local parking laws and ordinances. Issues tickets and responds to various parking inquiries and complaints from the public. In addition, the incumbent provides clerical support to the Treasurer’s department as assigned.

Patrols downtown area for illegally parked vehicles and issues tickets for vehicles in violation. Reviews and files daily ticket payment records. Prepares invoice information for annual paid parking leases and delivers yearly lease letters and tags. Collects parking meter coins and bags for deposit. Maintains accurate parking records in accordance with the record retention policy. Assists the public and downtown business owners with various parking inquiries and parking complaints. Performs routine maintenance on parking meters and calls for service when needed. Assists with annual parking enforcement budget. Assists Treasurer’s office with various clerical tasks when assigned.
Required Education/Experience/Knowledge
High School Diploma required. No work experience is required, but some clerical, customer service or administrative experience is preferred. Ability to quickly learn and master all State and local parking rules and ordinances. Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully both in writing and verbally. Aptitude to learn and apply a variety of software applications to conduct departmental processes and business. Ability to make decisions in accordance with regulations and departmental policies and procedures. Basic knowledge of major streets and locations in Midland. Basic math knowledge and ability to calculate fines and invoices. Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Michigan with a good driving record.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the individual must regularly navigate the downtown district while patrolling the parking beat. Must be able to spend multiple hours outdoors in all types of weather including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, and dust. Required to occasionally lift, move and secure objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
