SERVICE WRITER – Fleet Services – Public Works Department
– Up to $2,500 Sign On Bonus Available –
Schedule will be Monday thru Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (includes paid lunch break) –
The Department of Public Works seeks a talented candidate who will receive vehicle/equipment repair requests and then process the assignment of work for repair. This candidate interfaces with customers to schedule repairs of the City Fleet and communicates status of repairs to a diverse customer base. Work is performed under the direction of the Fleet Operations Manager. The successful candidate will supervise a crew of shop technicians as well as a crew during winter storm coverage and as required. Requirements of work include knowledge of automotive and heavy equipment repairs, gained through training and/or practical experience in a service/repair shop; knowledge of local repair shops and vendors; ability to recognize and learn the strengths and abilities of Fleet Services personnel; bookkeeping experience; excellent customer service and organizational skills; ability to operate a personal computer/network terminal; ability to prioritize daily workloads and to make adjustments as conditions change; ability to communicate clearly with Division personnel, customers and suppliers; works with Fleet Operations Manager to conduct general shop operations and fleet operations. Must possess valid Maine Class B driver’s license (Class A desired) or have ability to obtain within twelve (12) months. Possession of valid Vehicle Inspection License A, D & E and experience with fleet management software systems are desired. Successful applicant must pass pre-employment medical exam and pass federally mandated drug test and must maintain a good driving record. Offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory criminal background check and positive reference check. Supervisors Union position – Grade 26 – $937.20/week-plus an additional $1.00 market rate stipend per hour and $.25/hr. for each ASE up to $2.00.
