JOB SUMMARY
This position performs customer service duties in support of department operations.
MAJOR DUTIES
Greets and assists visitors to City Hall and answers telephone; provides information and assistance regarding city services; receives and forwards complaints; schedules appointments.
Receives and processes a variety of customer payments; issues receipts; posts payments to accounts; enters information into computer system.
Receives and processes applications for city services.
Processes new utility services, transfers of services, and disconnections.
Processes and enters building permit and Occupation Tax Certificate applications; files related documentation; processes annual Occupation Tax Certificate and renewal reminders.
Opens, stamps, sorts, and distributes mail.
Enters traffic citation information.
Maintains and balances cash drawer.
Prepares bank deposits.
Scans and copies documents.
Maintains inventory of office supplies.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
Knowledge of standard business arithmetic.
Knowledge of city utility service policies and procedures.
Skill in the maintenance of files and records.
Skill in resolving customer service issues.
Skill in oral and written communication.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Finance Director assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of related customer service duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to assist City Hall visitors and customers. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of a variety of department operations.

Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city personnel, customers, members of the general public.
Contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, or to resolve problems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light objects.
The work is typically performed in an office.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required; and
Less than one year of related experience required; or
Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work.
