The City of Ventura’s Parks and Recreation Department is hiring!
We have an immediate vacancy for the position of Recreation Coordinator with the Parks and Recreation Department. This is an exciting time to join the City of Ventura and start a rewarding career with the Parks and Recreation Team!
The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for organizing, implementing, and coordinating recreation and community programs for the City of Ventura’s Parks and Recreation Department. This position schedules, trains, and supervises the work of temporary support staff at various City facilities. In addition, the Recreation Coordinator provides administrative support to their assigned area.
Important: The resulting eligibility list will be used to fill other vacancies should they occur while the eligibility list is active. Qualifying candidates may be considered for future Recreation Coordinator vacancies in the assignments listed below. What You’ll Do
The current Recreation Coordinator vacancy will be assigned to the Recreation Division’s Sports Section and may support the development, organization, and implementation of sports and recreation programs, activities, clinics, and camps including adult sports leagues, fitness classes, tournaments, tennis/pickleball lessons, and events. Additionally, will help coordinate and support the City’s sports field allocation process; recruit, train, schedule, and supervise support staff and volunteers; and manage independent contract instructor-led programs.

The ideal candidate for this position has demonstrated proficiency using office technology and can adapt successfully to new technology changes in the workplace. This person is highly organized and can manage multiple projects at a time. The ideal candidate is skilled at working with constituents and employees from diverse backgrounds. This individual will possess a passion to give back to the community and bring forward innovative ideas to the City team.

Position Qualifications
WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO QUALIFY
A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to completion of some college course work in a field related to public administration, recreation, cultural arts, or social services, and two years of progressively responsible experience implementing services in the social services, senior services, cultural arts, or recreation field; OR in lieu of college coursework, a total of three years of experience as described above. Depending upon assignment, the ability to speak Spanish, in addition to English, is desirable.

Interview Dates And Information
A select number of candidates will be invited to a qualifying panel interview process that is tentatively scheduled for the week of September 25th. Select candidates will be notified of specifics after the filing deadline.
The department selection interviews are tentatively scheduled for the week of October 2nd. Candidates selected to move forward will be notified.
The Eligibility List established for this classification may be used to fill other regular and temporary vacancies at the discretion of the City.
