Staff Accountant

We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join our accounting and finance team. The Staff Accountant will play a vital role in the day‐to‐day operation of the business — from handling the preparation of financial statements and tax returns to analyzing financial data. We need a professional with inherent leadership qualities and the attention to detail necessary to ensure accurate reporting in all areas. The successful applicant will have a basic knowledge of construction and real estate accounting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Monthly preparation of transactions, supporting documentation, detail general ledger, financial statements, balance sheet analyses, journal entries, bank reconciliations and other supporting schedules/calculations.
• Analysis of financial information to help evaluate past and future financial performance via analysis of variances of current to prior periods, budgets and forecasts
• Analysis of income statement, balance sheet and cash flow activity
• Analyze results of various costs that are allocated to the construction jobs and equipment including monitoring variances; identifying trends; recommending actions to management
• Reconcile transactions by comparing and correcting data.
• Track expenses vs. budget and reforecast and analyze fluctuations
• Prepare and analyze monthly cash flow
• Prepare bank covenant schedules quarterly
• Organize and maintain company’s bank document files
• Prepare documentation required by bank for loans
• Good understanding of GAAP for depreciation, capitalization of assets, revenue recognition, lease accounting, purchase price allocation of building acquisitions, and other new pronouncements as they may apply to the company’s operations
• Analyze and research technical accounting matters, providing accurate and comprehensive documentation of issues identified and resolutions reached
• Prepare monthly and quarterly sales and use tax returns
• Perform other special projects and analyses as directed by management

Educational and Job Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in reporting, consolidation and financial analysis.
• Public accounting experience a plus
• Experience in corporate Real Estate and Construction (work‐in‐progress schedules)
• Accounting/GAAP knowledge
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (emphasis on Excel) and financial software applications
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple projects as well as strong follow through skills
• Must be detail oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills
• Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment
• Hands on experience with building operations/maintenance statistical analysis
• Outstanding presentation, reporting and communication skills

• Proven knowledge of financial forecasting and analyzing financial data
• Working knowledge of short and long‐term budgeting and forecasting
• Knowledge of commercial real estate
