DC Department of Human Resources Hiring for Fish & Wildlife Biologist at First, WV Full Time

The mission of the Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) is to protect and restore the environment, conserve natural resources, and improve the quality of life in the District of Columbia. The Fish and Wildlife Biologist position is located in the Fisheries and Wildlife Division. The incumbent’s primary responsibility will be to develop, prepare, and deliver aquatic ecosystem and aquatic resource education programs to students, youth groups, and the general public in a nature center setting. Additionally, the incumbent will assist technical staff in developing and conducting aquatic ecosystem, aquatic resource, fish, and wildlife surveys and data interpretation for the purpose of educating the citizens of the District of Columbia on ways to manage and protect terrestrial and aquatic living resources within the District of Columbia.

Duties And Responsibilities

The incumbent will also conduct fishing demonstrations and plan and lead fishing events. The incumbent will prepare official correspondence to schools, youth groups, and the public on the Department’s Aquatic Resources Education Program, aquatic ecosystems, aquatic resources, fish, aquatic dependent non-fish species, and other living resources issues. The incumbent will develop the annual work plan, budget requirements, and reports. Finally, the incumbent will be responsible for increasing the DC metropolitan area’s participation in, and visibility of, the Department’s Aquatic Resources Education Program.

The incumbent will design and execute fish and wildlife research and manage projects. Including, conducting fish or wildlife research and surveys for the purpose of managing and protecting terrestrial and aquatic living resources within the District of Columbia. Writes and reviews fish or wildlife program publications. Prepares official correspondence on fish or wildlife and other living resources issues. Responsible for the preparation and dissemination of aquatic resources and wildlife information provided to the public. Assists in the preparation of the annual work plan and the budget requirements. Prepares grant applications and supporting documentation. Is responsible for overall maintenance of the Branch’s equipment and vehicles.

Qualifications And Education

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must be equivalent to the next lower grade in the normal line of progression.

The work is performed in an office which is an adequately heated, lighted, and ventilated and in the field.
