The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring, and managing county networks. The position performs duties overseeing data centers, network equipment, telephones, wireless, surveillance cameras, access control, copper and fiber optic cabling, and other infrastructure devices. The Network Engineer is responsible for network security, integrity, and high reliability. The Network Engineer is required to provide excellent customer service, resolve problems in a timely manner, communicate effectively, and be a positive contributor to the Denton County Technology Services Team.
Installs, configures, and supports network equipment including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless, VPN, UPS, and other supporting network infrastructure and IoT devices.
Installs, configures, and supports telephone systems including voicemail, call center applications, VoIP, and POTS equipment.
Installs and supports copper and fiber optic cabling. Ensures cables are labeled according to department and industry standards.
Installs, configures, and supports servers used as network and telecommunication servers.
Orders, maintains, and troubleshoots telecommunication circuits and services.Develops and implements strategies to lower telecommunication costs.
Develops and implements backup procedures to ensure high availability of network and telecommunication services.
Develops, maintains, and communicates project plans and schedules.
Coordinates and supervises vendors and consultants.
Maintains an accurate inventory list and documentation for all network and telephone equipment and related processes.
Ensures data centers, communication closets, patch panels, and cross connects are organized, neat, and clean.
Maintains on-call status and carries a wireless phone at all times.
Follows county policies and best practices related to information security; exercises good judgment to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Denton County computer systems and electronic records; supports compliance with CJIS, HIPAA, and other information security regulations.
Displays and reflects the culture, mission, vision, values, and direction of the department.
Performs other related duties as required.
High School Diploma or GED and a minimum three years of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
Position may require various computer or technical related certifications.
Possession of a valid driver’s license required. Must obtain a valid Texas driver’s license within 90 days of employment.
Must not have any Class B misdemeanor or higher convictions or deferred adjudications.
