A Driver License Examiner II (CDL) administers written and visual acuity tests and conducts skill and road performance tests to determine applicant eligibility for driver licenses of all types but primarily for Category 4 and commercial driver license Categories A through C and applicable endorsements, or supervises and participates in motor vehicle driver licensing activities at a sub-station involving applicants for license Categories 1 through 3; scores tests administered, collects fees and issues driver licenses and instruction permits; and performs other related duties as required.

There is one (1) vacancy with the Department of Customer Services, Motor Vehicles, Licensing and Permits Division. The position will be located at Pearl City. This position administers written and oral examinations and conducts road performance tests to determine applicants’ eligibility for various operators licenses. The position is under the supervision of the Supervising Driver License Examiner I and must have knowledge of traffic laws and ordinances.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Three (3) years of supervisory, driver training instructional, regulatory or related experience, including or supplemented by one (1) year of frequent public contact which involved explaining rules and regulations to others in determining their eligibility or non-eligibility for licenses, benefits or similar matters.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
At the time of application:
Possession of a valid commercial driver’s license Category A (CDL A) with passenger endorsement.
Prior to completion of probation:
1. Possession of a valid commercial driver’s license Category A (CDL A) with all endorsements; and
2. Completion of a recognized certified Commercial Driver’s License Examiners Course.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Candidates for examiners of Category 4 and Commercial Driver’s licenses must possess a good driving record, as evidenced by a certified traffic abstract with no moving violations within the past three (3) years; and a valid commercial driver’s license Category A, for at least three years immediately preceding appointment. In addition, candidates must possess a valid commercial driver’s license Category A with passenger endorsement.
