Job Duties
Responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of programs to oversee the safety of DLC contractors and to reduce risk and facilitate the safety of the public from hazards associated with the DLC electrical system.
* Act as the company point person regarding the management of public safety risks, including facilitating a public safety steering team, and interface with key regulators, such as the PA PUC Electrical Safety Division, and OSHA.
* Develop and improve processes for oversight and management of DLC contractors, including interface with various internal business representatives and with contractor management and safety resources
* Develop and deliver training to DLC internal stakeholder groups on recognition and management of public safety risks, including system issues and public behavior issues
* Collaborate with business and operations leadership to provide technical guidance, monitoring and metrics, identify continuous improvement opportunities and develop plans to close performance gaps in the areas of contractor and public safety
* Coordinate public safety outreach efforts to groups such as emergency responders, high risk contractors, public schools, etc.
* Monitor emerging federal, state, and local regulatory requirements with potential impact/risk to the company in the areas of contractor and public safety.
* Facilitate and maintain visible field presence for inspection and observation of DLC contractor projects
* Work closely with Legal resources to investigate and manage public safety incidents.
* Benchmark and network with other electric utility contacts in the area of public safety and contractor safety to assure that industry trends and best practices are understood and considered.
* As a member of the EHS team, periodically respond to and investigate incidents involving DLC employees, participate in site assessments, develop and deliver training, and develop or enhance policies/procedures.
* Periods of off shift and weekend on call duty to respond to incidents, emergencies, and storms.
Qualifications/Education Required:
* Roles at this level typically require a university / college degree
* Experience in electric utility industry, ideally with transmission and distribution.
* A highly driven, self-motivated, and enthusiastic leader capable of communicating, motivating, and driving an organization toward change and positive improvement.
* Proven ability to make accurate decisions and demonstrate sound judgment.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong computer skills and information system knowledge.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to communicate with others both written and orally. Valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Able to travel as required. Mobility within the office and on construction job sites.
