he Development Services Department (DSD) assists homeowners, business owners, and contractors when they build, demolish, remodel or perform any type of construction to ensure compliance with applicable city and building codes.
DSD is seeking an Environmental Compliance Specialist Sr. in the Nightlife and Entertainment Services Division. The group reviews and approves sound permits for both permanent venues and special events, serves as a liaison for permit holders and a resource for nightlife stakeholders to help resolve conflicts as they arise, and works on policy, planning and stakeholder partnerships to support both the long-term viability and sustainability of entertainment establishments and districts, and residential quality of life.
All outdoor amplified music at commercial establishments and special events in Austin requires a permit. The purpose of the permit is to assess and limit impacts to the surrounding community and to support both outdoor amplified sound at establishments and residential quality of life. Every permit includes a sound impact plan that specifies the allowances and restrictions for decibel limits and operating hours, as well as other details that the establishment must comply with. The Environmental Compliance Specialist Sr. is responsible for responding to complaints, educating establishments on permit requirements, investigating to determine if a permit violation has occurred, seeking compliance, and taking enforcement actions as needed to gain compliance.
Please Note: This position has a regular schedule of evening, late night, weekend hours and some holidays to accommodate music and nightlife industry standards. Ability to work evening, late night, weekends and select holidays as regular and permanent schedule is required. Specific days and hours to be determined and will include at least four (4) and potentially (5) nighttime shifts on weekdays and weekends, and may include one (1) weekday daytime shift.
Driving Requirement:This position requires a State of Texas Class C driver license or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
