Eligible lists may be used for temporary and permanent vacancies for the class of work during the life of the eligible list. Temporary appointments may lead to conversion to permanent employment.
Operates and maintains revolving crawler or truck-mounted cranes or excavators or standard power shovels with digging attachments of ¾ cubic yard capacity or more as a primary, regular assignment in performing general construction and maintenance work; and performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Example: Twelve months of experience at 60 hours per week is equivalent to one year, not one and one-half years.

If a degree is used to substitute for the education requirement, it may not be used again towards the experience requirement. If work experience is used to substitute for education, it may not be used again to meet the experience requirement. If the applicant holds more than one degree, transcripts must be provided, and a thorough review will be conducted by the DHR staff in order for more than one degree to be credited towards the minimum qualification requirements. Additional degrees can be considered if obtained independently through mutually exclusive classes from another degree being considered. Substitutions will be used to the advantage of the applicant.
Quality of Experience: Possession of the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for a position. The applicant’s overall experience must have been of such scope and level of responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that he/she has the ability to perform the duties of the position for which he/she is being considered.
License Requirement: Possession of a valid appropriate Commercial Driver’s License (B) with applicable endorsements, and current State of Hawaii DOT examination certificate. (Candidate will need to bring both to performance examination)
Knowledge of: The function, capacities, and methods of operating various construction equipment, including revolving cranes, excavators and/or standard power shovels; uses, purposes and techniques in rigging of various digging and hoisting attachment; general construction and maintenance practices as they relate to operation of construction equipment, revolving cranes, excavators, and power shovels; hazards and safety precautions applicable to the operations of construction equipment including revolving cranes, excavators, and power shovels; maintenance needs of construction equipment; laws, ordinances, rules and regulations governing the operation of motor vehicles on street and highways.
Ability to: Operate a variety of construction equipment, including revolving cranes, excavators, and/or standard power shovels with digging attachments of ¾ cubic yard capacity or more, skillfully, and safely; rig and use various crane and shovel attachments such as clamshells, draglines, and hooks; recognize mechanical and operational defects in equipment; make minor emergency repairs to power and lifting units and to other parts of the equipment.
Tests: Applicants are required to qualify on an appropriate examination (Hitachi Excavator).
Health and Physical Condition Requirements: Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
