Software Development Engineer III

We are seeking top engineering talent to join the Expedia Group Edge Engineering team and help drive the development of our key platform capabilities, seamlessly roll out new features, and continually raise the bar on our operational excellence and engineering practices. We work on mission critical systems for handling website traffic at scale at the edge of the Expedia network – our systems process billions of HTTP requests every day. Our team builds and manages high quality and performant software which powers the front-door experience for our customers, as well as build and maintain self-service tools for our internal developer community.
What you’ll do:
You will join and enhance an experienced, successful, high-performing, and close-knit software development team committed to mutual learning through peer code reviews and innovation
You will tackle a wide range of software and system issues that will require a deep understanding of the application architecture, software engineering, and deployment infrastructure
You will solve complex business problems by applying disciplined development methodology, producing scalable, flexible, efficient, and supportable solutions using appropriate technologies
You will actively participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, functional and technical design, development, testing and release, and support
You will find creative and simple solutions to challenging problems, with a focus on getting things done in a test & learn culture
You will expand your skills in developing high quality, distributed, and scalable software
You will implement best practices and constantly raise the bar in terms of Engineering Excellence
You will play a critical role in building world-class platform enabled services
You will develop fast, scalable, highly available, and reliable micro-services that will process thousands of requests per second
You will write clean, coherent, well-documented code
You will continually strive to improve our development and delivery processes
You will lead and mentor less experienced developers in software development methodology
Who you are:

You possess deep technical proficiency, capable of problem-solving and applying critical thinking, with an understanding of software design principles, algorithms, and data structures
You have strong communication skills. You articulate your ideas to peers and leaders, providing detail and understanding of your approach, and keep solid documentation
You have a proven ability to collaborate among peers, leaders and across functions and business groups
The total cash range for this position in Chicago is $118,000 to $165,500. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $189,000, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $128,500.00 to $180,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $205,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
