Applications will be reviewed by County Human Resources & Development. As extra help positions become available, County departments with the job openings select the most qualified and appropriate applicant for the position available. The number of hours and duration of employment varies by each assignment. Extra help employees may work in a variety of County departments in locations throughout the geographic county area. Extra help employees may not work more than 1,559 hours in any fiscal year from July to June.
An extra help employee who mistakenly works in excess of 1,559 hours in a fiscal year does not become a probationary or regular employee.
Applications will be active for six months. If you are hired for extra help and you complete a work assignment and then wish to be employed again, you must resubmit an Extra Help application online.
There are no benefits associated with extra help positions.
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in health education or related field,
Experience: None Required
Equivalencies: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in health education or related field AND one (1) year of related health education experience.
Knowledge of: Education principles, methods, and techniques in order to develop effective training modules. Health education planning and public health philosophy as related to program planning. Math sufficient to interpret statistical data, prepare budgets, and project material costs for programs. Research and evaluation methods and processes. HIPAA rules and regulations.
Skill/Ability to: Work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds by respecting beliefs, interpersonal styles and behaviors of both clients and co-workers. Operate contemporary office equipment inclusive of computer, keyboard, and all applicable electronic equipment. Plan, organize, and conduct public health education presentations. Speak effectively before groups for the purpose of providing information. Formulate, implement, and achieve program goals and objectives. Write clear, concise, and accurate grant proposals, reports, news releases, and evaluations. Develop survey tools and evaluate health education program success. Facilitate group process activities by applying methods for problem solving. Read and interpret public health laws, professional journals, and research papers. Develop and implement new health education programs. Communicate clearly and effectively in all forms of communications by using correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Coordinate work with other departments. Display strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Work independently and in a team-oriented environment. Operate a computer and other office equipment in the completion of daily tasks and assignments. Perform simple or complex tasks quickly. Work with a variety of activities and multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver’s license.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Skill/Ability to speak, read, and write in a designated second language in addition to English.
