The City of Mt. Shasta is accepting applications for the position of Fire Captain. This is a full-time position with an hourly compensation range of $28.50 to $31.35, depending on experience.
Under the direction of the Fire Chief, this position responds to and oversee a variety of emergencies, including medical and fire suppression calls to prevent or minimize the loss of life and property, hazardous materials incidents, and confined space, extrication and technical rescues. The Fire Captain oversees and participates in fire prevention and inspection activities, equipment and station maintenance, as well as all aspects of fire training. The position also exercises general and direct supervision over assigned firefighters and volunteers, so leadership and communication skills are essential.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and at least five years of firefighting experience and training. They must also possess at least a valid California Class C driver’s license with firefighter endorsement, as well as Firefighter I and II or equivalent, Basic First Aid (Title 22) and CPR/AED certification, and Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations certification. It is preferred that candidates have a Class B license, however, the City will allow six months for the candidate to acquire this. While on shift and on standby the position requires residence in the 96067-zip code. For further details please see the Fire Captain job description.
This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to gain valuable supervisory experience in a small fire department that handles between 1,000 and 1,250 calls per year. The position also offers the possibility for strike team participation and compensation.
Interested applicants can obtain a job description and application from City Hall by phoning 530-926-7510 or on the City’s website at www.mtshastaca.gov under Human Resources. Applications and resumes must be submitted to City Hall, Attn: Administrative Supervisor or emailed to [email protected]. The position is open until filled with the first review anticipated to be December 13, 2023. Resumes will not be accepted without a completed application. The final candidate must successfully pass a pre-employment background, physical and drug screen.
