Job Summary: The purpose of this job is to maintain a variety of vehicles for operational readiness.
Essential Job Functions:
Installs camera systems and a variety of specialized police equipment, including bullhorn speakers, traffic advisory warning lights and early warning systems, radios,
sirens and lights in patrol and other vehicles.
Calibrates, programs, tests, troubleshoots, repairs, and replaces electronic voice and data communications equipment, including mobile data terminals/laptops, data modems and antenna equipment.
Prepares vehicles to be issued out.
Schedules/transports vehicles to and from vendors for major overhaul/repair.
Maintains records of vehicle/equipment maintenance, supplies/parts/materials used and time spent.

Minimum Requirements:
High school graduation or G.E.D. equivalent supplemented by completion of specialized training in Automotive Electrics/Electronics, Automotive Repair or closely related field and one (1) year journey level automotive repair or closely related work. Must possess ASE Certification in Automotive Electronics. Must be willing to obtain the Law Enforcement Vehicle Installation Technician certification within a year of being hired.
Physical Effort Required:
The work of this class primarily involves medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 26 to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 51 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
