The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for supporting all activities associated with employee benefits and compensation. Critical to this position is a motivated, self-driven team player. The ability to multi-task and change priorities is crucial. Human Resources is a service organization and as such, representatives must have patience and the flexibility to address issues as they arise and treat all employees in a warm, friendly, accommodating manner. This position must have the ability to communicate with employees and relay information from introductory to advanced levels.
Responsibilities:
The essential function of this position is to perform HR functions in relation to benefits including but not limited to administering benefit programs, processing leave of absence requests for our employees in compliance with regulations of FMLA, PFL, NYS Disability, NYS Workers Compensation and ADA, Unemployment, and Payroll Processing as needed.
Benefits Administration
Administer/Approve Enrollment elections in ADP for new hires and during open enrollment
Educate employee on all employee benefit options as needed
Conduct annual open enrollment events
Promote participation in 401 K accounts
Perform Benefit audits quarterly
Leave of Absence Management
Meet with employees that request leave of absences or are out of work for more than 1 week with anticipate leave required;
Disability and Leave Management Administration including FMLA, DBL, PFL, and ADA;
Work with Leave Management and benefit providers to process claims including monitoring of approval status and length of leave;
Communicate change of status to HR, employee’s Dept and Carriers;
Update HRIS with Leave Status;
Advise employees on eligibility and other matters related to benefits before during and after leave;
Provide guidance and support to associates and managers on leave of absence processes;
Update Supervisors and Managers on leave status through leave;
Coordinate with Supervisors and Managers for Return to Work and Light Duty Accommodations when applicable
Workers Compensation:
Acts as the point of notification and contact for team members and supervisors/managers regarding any incident or injury that could or has resulted in a Workers’ Compensation claim;
Point of contact for all documentation regarding incident. This includes internal safety notifying and investigation details as well as any health information relevant to the claim from outside medical providers and treatment notes. Health information is limited to medical related to the injury;
Record and Report Workers compensation claims to Insurance Broker or Carrier;
Complete WC Board Forms in particular C-11 and C-240 Forms in a timely manner;
Maintain Workers Compensation Claim files;
Communicate change of status to HR, employee’s Dept and Carrier;
Initial and ongoing point of contact to internal and external business partners for the duration of the claim;
Monitoring the 1st Aid program and working with Broker’s 1st Aid unit including processing first aid invoices paid in-house;
Following-up with injured workers to see how they are doing and on return to work;
Coordinate with Supervisors and Managers for Light Duty Accommodations when applicable;
OSHA Reporting Including Logs and Forms in coordination with Safety Manager;
Working with the WC carrier to address any questions pertaining to the claims;
Work with Broker on benchmarking reported claims, lost time and claim costs;
Other HR Tasks and Responsibilities:
Assist with company orientations, including Handbook Review of Policies and Procedures, Benefits.
Process terminations, including sending exit letters, ADP status changes and benefits cancellation and COBRA notification
Payroll Backup as needed
Perform Mandatory Postings Bulletin Board Audit annually
Manage Unemployment Claims
Other Special Projects
Qualifications:
Education and Experience required
Bachelors Degree in HR or related field preferred
2 to 4 years’ experience in the Human Resources field required
2 years experience with benefits and leave of absence administration including Disability and Workers Compensation strongly preferred
ADP Workforce Now experience preferred
Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
KSA (knowledge skills and abilities) required
Knowledge of NYS and other related State Workers Compensation Laws and Reporting Requirements (OSHA)
Knowledge of Federal and State HR compliance law and procedures
Strong understanding of confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel,)
Demonstrate ability to manage multiple and complex administrative processes. Strong interpersonal skills
Superior communication (oral and written) and presentation skills.
Superior ability to develop rapport at all levels
