The Cavalier Resort, sets the standard for luxury in the Mid-Atlantic Market. The resort consists of two Full Service Hotels. The Marriott Virginia Beach Oceanfront, consisting of 305 guest rooms and two of the highest rated restaurants – Tulu Seaside Bar and Grille and Orion’s Roof. The Historic Cavalier Hotel has been an iconic presence for nearly a century with 85 guest rooms, upscale amenities including SeaHill Spa, Tarnished Truth Distillery, The Cavalier Beach Club and three unique food and beverage outlets – Becca Restaurant & Garden, The Raleigh Room, and the Hunt Room. The resort will welcome a third hotel in early 2023 with the opening of the new oceanfront Embassy Suites.
Job Summary:
The Director of Human Resources works closely with the members of Hotel and F&B Management to develop strategic goals related to job skills training certification, turnover, retention, and Associate/management development, including career path development and certification programs. The Director of Human Resources serves as the front-line contact with Department Heads on organizational realignments as needed of Associates. The Director of Human Resources reports to the Director of Recruiting and Training and serves on the Executive Committee.
Role Responsibility:
1. Partners with leadership to ensure that training and testing for Associates is being executed according to Operating Plans, standards and the Gold Key/PHR Service Platform and brand requirements.
2. Execute Trainer Certification program to build manager proficiency in training across the company. Provide career development through Certified training programs in concert with BPM/Operating Plan SME’s to provide continual process improvement/maintenance for Operating Plans.
3. Conduct periodic training needs analyses to determine human resources training priorities. Develop a management training schedule. Work closely with the Department/Division trainers (if applicable) to coordinate programs.
4. Provide input for and assist with implementation of annual Associate Opinion Survey. Effectively communicate survey results to properties on a timely basis. Utilize scores to target need area and assist in developing plans and actions. Monitor progress to ensure desired results. (as required by brand or Gold Key/PHR.)
5. Manage the performance evaluation process for all exempt and non-exempt Associates. Ensure that new exempt Associates receive their 90-day performance review.
6. Provide advice and counsel to managers on interpretation of Human Resources policies and procedures and the application of sound management.
7. Ensure that all disciplinary and counseling action up to and including termination complies with company policies and standards.
8. Review monthly turnover reports and analyze to identify trends and problem areas. Provide any necessary plans and actions are developed and implemented.
9. Conduct Hourly and Salary exit interviews. Document results and presented to Property leadership.
10. Actively demonstrate company “Open Door” philosophy. Promote Associate and management understanding of open-door policy, problem resolution, appeal processes and employment agreement.
11. Investigate and elevate any formal charges and informal complaints of harassment and discrimination to Corporate HR.
12. Assist Corporate HR with Benefit enrollments, administration and Q&A.
13. Develop and promote Associate recognition programs. Be creative to ensure that programs stay fresh and consistent among all the properties. Participate in the organization of scheduled events for Associates. Closely monitor all recognition programs in place to ensure they remain effective.
14. Manage property/complex Uniform Program.
15. Maintain a working knowledge of all State and Federal employment related policies and laws.
16. Ensure property and department communications boards meet SSI and provide timely, relevant information to the Teams.
17. Perform Emergency Response duties as required for this role in the Emergency Response Organizational Chart and Plan.
18. Lead special projects and other responsibilities as assigned. Participate in task forces and committees as requested.
