Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital, a part of Fairview Health Services, is currently seeking a dedicated Patient Account Specialist to join our team!

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full time (80 hours per pay period)
WORK SCHEDULE: Days (Hybrid work model, remote & on-site required)

JOB SUMMARY:
The Patient Account Specialist is responsible for assuring that all charges and necessary information is billed on patient accounts in a timely and accurate manner to Contracted health plan and government payers. Serves as Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital’s liaison with payers and patients regarding accounts within the organization. .
JOB DUTIES:
1. Process primary, secondary and tertiary insurance claims accurately and timely for prompt payments of patient accounts. This includes hospital, clinic and home care claims.
2. Adequately resolves all correspondence received, addressing problems with charges or payments in a timely and effective manner. Including, but not limited to, the submission of appeals, any requested information from the payor for adjudication, and/or refunds.
3. Assure that all patient and billing information is accurate and up to date in the organization’s computer systems. This may include entering patient demographic and/or insurance information.
4. Responsible for monitoring the accounts receivable aging reports and other tools to address those accounts that are not paid in a timely fashion and work with the payors to resolve.
5. Monitor and resolve all correspondence received, addressing problems with charges or payments in a timely and effective manner
6. Monitor remittance advice, denials and rejections to address and resolve in a timely manner.
7. Collaborate timely with the patient, internal team members and other departments as necessary to resolve billing issues.
8. Maintains knowledge and understanding of billing system(s) rules, processes and edits.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Two plus years of recent hospital and/or clinic billing or equivalent experience required OR an associate degree in related field OR any bachelor’s degree.
2. Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
3. Demonstrated ability to work professionally as a team and with others.
4. Basic computer knowledge with experience in Microsoft Office tools.
5. Ability to work within a team environment as well as be self-directed/independent with minimal supervision.
6. Demonstrated ability to follow and adhere to Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital policies, vision, mission and values.
7. Maintains reliable and consistent attendance.
Community Information
Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital has 10,000 to 12,000 patient visits per month. The primary service area of the clinic includes roughly 50,000 people. In the local and surrounding community, Grand Itasca is the dominant provider of primary health care services. A long tradition of providing excellent service in Family Practice and Internal Medicine has positioned the Clinic for its expansion into secondary care specialties.
Grand Rapids is three hours from Minneapolis and 90 minutes from Duluth.
