The Jr. Software Engineer designs & implements computer programs, and modifies existing programs, to meet identified user requirements and to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the company.

Main Responsibilities:

• Writes code with testability, readability, edge cases, and errors in mind. Issues pull requests, receives feedback of code review and quality, makes changes, merges code, with help from more senior engineers. Responds to pull requests from other developers.
• Writes unit tests, sometimes with help from more senior engineers.
• Understands the basics of debugging and the tools used for it.
• Is aware of the organization’s monitoring philosophy and the operational data for their team’s domain.
• Is aware of overall service architecture and design patterns. Works to implement in code with help from more senior engineers.
• Understands the importance of security. Completes the basic training for secure coding and follows the secure software development cycle (SDLC). Participate in Developer’s Security Meetings.
• Acts according to task prioritization
• Has daily conversation with the team about the progress of their work. Delivers on commitments with a sense of urgency. Understands and participates in project planning including daily standup and sprint ceremonies with assistance from more senior team members.
• Understands how to give and receive praise and constructive feedback in a useful manner.
• Helps their teammates when requested. Gives or shares credit where due. Works to build strong relationships with their teammates and manager.
• Openly shares their opinions and contributes to discussions in a respectful manner. Works with teammates to resolve disagreement in a healthy manner.
• Strongly oriented towards goals and works towards their team’s goals.
• Understands their team’s practices and processes.
• Participates actively in weekly mentorship to grow their knowledge and experience.
• Is able to gain context within team’s domain with help from more senior engineers. Has a basic understanding of their team’s product domain and financial payment marketplace. Understands basic utility of the product.
• Analyze performance of programs and take action to correct deficiencies based on consultation with colleagues, and users, with approval of manager.
• Keep up to date with developments in programming to ensure that the company continues to take advantage of new ideas and developments. Utilizes available training resources and programs to gain, maintain, and update development knowledge.
• Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed.
• Has a healthy work-life balance. Is engaged in dedicating time, energy, focus, and commitment towards completing daily work. Continues also to maintain a personal quality of life, relationships, and responsibilities unrelated to their work at GTI. Works with team and leadership through any challenges they may face in this regard
• Duties as assigned by IT Departmental Managers. Knowledge, skills and experience required: 1. Competent knowledge of software development and relevant programming languages, and ability to learn additional skills and knowledge. 2. Documented training or education in the area of software development. 3. Increasing ability in analytical and decision-making skills. 4. Functional and growing communication skills.
